What’s new
After booting the game, you can see the normal introduction of Pokemon Fire Red with Nidorino and Gengar. However, no Press Start at all. Although Red still remains the same, but his Pokemon didn’t cycle. Under the Pokemon logo is a title: Black Version (not the Pokemon Black on Nintendo DS). After choosing New Game and viewing Professor Oak’s usual speech, you will see an unsual thing: there is a Pokemon called Ghost in your party. Well, it appears from no where.
Much much later, you will face the most creepy part of this game. When using the Ghost Pokemon to battle, your opponents cannot move. There is only a move named Curse in your Fight menu. Choose it, your screen will turn to black. Then, you can heard the cry of that opponent but in a very much lower pitch and it has been distorted. The battle screen will be back again, but there is no Pokemon at your opponent’s side. Well then, the Pokemon was dead. You see, DEAD!
What’s even stranger is after using the Curse move on any trainer you face, the sprites of trainer is gone. Instead, a tombstone like the ones at Lavender Tower is replaced that trainer! Do you know what does that mean? Ah uh… that one is DEAD, too!
You can feel a terrible, scary atmosphere with the infinite loop of the soundtrack Lavender Town. Well, everyone doesn’t like this soundtrack because it is too haunted. But it is the main music of this version, so you cannot change anything unless you turn off the volume.
Prepare to sense and feel the mysterious of darkness and death in this game. If you want to have a horror experience, turn off the light and play this game. Let see how long can you last.
